744 patients wait at least three months to see aneurologist

SEVEN hundred and forty four patients with brain and nervous problems waited at least three months for a first outpatient appointment in the Western Trust in the last quarter of last year 2010/11, according to the Health Minister Edwin Poots.

And three hundred and forty patients were waiting for at least six months for a neurology appointment in the Western Trust area at the end of March.

Four hundred and four patients were waiting between 13 and 26 weeks; 124 were waiting between nine and 13 weeks; 127 were waiting between six and nine weeks; and 290 were waiting for less than six weeks. The total number of appointments awaited was 1,285.

The Health Minister outlined the waiting times for first outpatient appointments with a consultant in the neurology specialty in response to an Assembly Question. The data relate to the position at March 31, 2011, the most recent quarter for which official statistics are available.
