769 won DLA appeals

OVER 750 people won Disability Living Allowance (DLA) in Londonderry over the past three years, according to Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland.

The total number of DLA appeals won here was 769 over the three year period: 289 were won in 2008/9; 292 in 2009/10; and 188 in 2010/11. The Minister revealed there were 14,245 DLA claimants in Londonderry in May.

He explained that the Appeals Service arranges DLA appeals to be heard in Tribunal Centres throughout Northern Ireland - including one in Londonderry.

He stated: “The total number of Tribunal determinations for Disability Living Allowance appeals, both allowed and disallowed, for the same 3-year period was 15,507.”
