78-year-old injured in inspection pit fall on Maghera farm in the early hours

A 78-year-old man has been taken to hospital for treatment after falling into an inspection pit in a farm shed in the early hours of this morning [Monday].

The incident was reported to have taken place at around 1.40am on the Mullagh Road, Maghera.

Local fire crews were called to the scene.

The man, who was injured during the fall, was treated by paramedics before being hoisted out of the pit by firefighters.

A Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service statement said: “Local resources attended an incident where a 78-year-old man had fallen into an inspection pit in a shed at a farm on the Mullagh Road outside Maghera in the early hours of Monday morning.

“The man was initially treated by paramedics at the scene and when stabilised was removed by NIFRS personnel. He was transferred to hospital by ambulance.”
