83 claims made for medical

EIGHTY-THREE compensation claims for medical negligence taken in the Western area had still not been settled or closed prior to the Review of Public Administration (RPA).

A further seven claims had still not been settled despite having been in legal process for over 10 years.

The Health Minister outlined the information in response to a query at the Stormont Assembly.

He was asked to detail the number of compensation claims for medical negligence, against Health Boards and the Health and Social Care Trusts, which had not been settled or closed after five years; 10 years; and 15 years.

The figures include claims relating to the legacy health and social care organisations, which existed prior to the RPA.
