A Christmas Star showcases Glenarm

Elected representatives have praised newly-released movie A Christmas Star for showcasing the village of Glenarm on the big screen.

The film is narrated by Ballymena-born film star Liam Neeson and features a host of household names, including Downton Abbey’s Robert James-Collier, Suranne Jones from Scott&Bailey, The Fall’s Bronagh Waugh and former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan.

Produced by Cinemagic, the film tells the story of a young girl named Noelle, who was born under the Christmas Star and believes she has the gift to perform miracles. When a conniving developer named McKerrod threatens her way of life, she and her friends decide to use this gift to thwart his plans and save their village.

In the film, Glenarm doubles for the fictional village of Pottersglen, while Carnlough’s Londonderry Arms Hotel also features.

The Chief Executive of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council Anne Donaghy and elected representatives attended the premiere at the Odyssey on November 4.

At a meeting of the council’s Economic Growth and Development Committee on November 16, Chair Councillor Audrey Wales told members that the Chief Executive was “keen to explore future opportunities to showcase Mid and East Antrim on the big screen and will continue to look out for further opportunities.”

Alderman Maureen Morrow added: “Glenarm was looking wonderful, it’s a really good profile film for the area.
