Eden Crockett, from Campsie, who is a pupil at Craigbrack Primary School, just outside Eglinton, opted for a new look not simply because she is going on holiday to Spain for three weeks, but because she wanted to help a child who had lost their hair through cancer treatment.

She and her family have been raising money for two months, and to date have collected just over £900 for Northern Irish Cancer Care.

In addition, her hair is to be posted to the Little Princess Trust, where it will be made into a wig for a child who has suffered hair loss due to medical treatment for cancer.

“I did not want my hair wasted in a hairdresser’s bin,” said the brave 10-year-old, who made the journey to Fringe hairdressers at Clooney Terrace in the Waterside, with mum Donna and a posse of supporters, where proprietor Gillian McColgan, gave her a new look.

It was a nerve-wracking experience for Gillian who admitted: “I don’t think my hands have ever shook so much cutting someone’s hair”.
