Hundreds turned out to see the new lighting scheme and the stage show has also received acclaim. Both the Mayor’s Office and the Chamber President have been received lots of complimentary comments, shops reported brisk business and cafes were busy.

Speaking after the event Chamber President Winnifred Mellett enthused: “The lights are magnificent. Everyone I met was full of praise after they were switched on. Full credit to the Mayor and Councillors for providing the new lights, with the Christmas music they certainly add to the festive atmosphere in town and will, we hope, attract additional visitors to shop in our local businesses in the run up to Christmas.”

The President also spoke in glowing terms about the entertainment on switch on night. “We worked hard to offer a great shopping experience in town this Christmas and the switch on event did not disappoint. The party kicked off at 5.30 pm and a full programme of entertainment, including some elfishness fun, presented by schools and groups, all local, showcased the tremendous talent we have here in Ballymoney. It was a great show, I take my hat off to them. We have two additional late nights on 20th and 23rd December and we will entertain you while you shop into the evening under the sparkling new lights.”

Mayor John Finlay echoed the President’s remarks commenting: “It was a great night. Council was pleased to provide funding to renew the Christmas light. They are completely different style and have been a great talking point. The switch on event is one of the highlights of the year attracting thousands to the town.”

Concluding Councillor Finlay said: “The town was definitely brimming with festive cheer on Thursday and my message to citizens is - continue to support local business this Christmas season - Shop Local, Eat Local, Spend Local and Enjoy Local.”

There is lots of festive entertainment in town with Children’s Movies, Fun Fair, Christmas Market, Santa’s Grotto and visits, a selection of Pantos with Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Oliver and an Ulster Scots take on Scrooge being staged in town.
