A fifth of cars fail city MOTs

ONE fifth of cars tested at the Londonderry MOT centre each year aren’t roadworthy, according to the Environment Minister Alex Attwood.

Over the past five years 19.5 per cent of vehicles required re-testing at the Londonderry Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA) testing centre.

Last year 19.19 per cent of vehicles were re-tested. The lowest figure over the last five years was 18.72 per cent three years ago; the highest was 20.79 per cent in 2005/6.

Mr Attwood stated that the ratio of vehicles which required re-testing means the total number of vehicles that undertook a re-test as a percentage of the total number of vehicle tests conducted in the Londonderry test centre.
