A good Luke at the Eclipse- despite cloud

Despite most of the borough being covered by cloud some local photographers managed to grab some incredible glimpses of the solar eclipse.

Ed Luke was amongst many budding astronomers out on Friday morning hoping to see the cosmic event and from his location in Kells he got a stunning and atmospheric shot at 9.24am.

Others in Ballymena weren’t as lucky as a dark cloud moved into place just around the same time the moon was moving in front of the sun.

It felt like nine o’clock at night rather than nine in the morning as a strange darkness descended.

Hopes had been raised as the sun peeked out behind the cloud just before the full eclipse and a crescent shape on the sun was visible for a short time.

However it didn’t last for long and the only view of the eclipse most local people had was on TV, the Internet and of course Ed’s stunning picture.
