A total of 83 per cent of St Killian’s students achieved A*-C in their examination results with 99 per cent achieving at least two good A Level passes.

The college saw the percentage of A*/A grades increased to 39 per cent, well above the National Average. New subjects such as health and social care, engineering, construction, applied business studies, Level 3 ICT and sport studies, introduced to meet the Entitlement Framework, have produced significant and very positive outcomes; some of these subjects recorded A* grades across the board, opening up many career paths for students.

In addition, College Principal Jonny Brady noted significant results achieved in both the STEM and arts subjects.

“This highlights the success the college has in delivering a broad range of educational pathways to develop the interests and talents of all our students, providing them with the academic results and key life skills to confidently contribute to our society and growing economy,” he added.

“With university places in high demand we are pleased that with the help, advice and guidance of the college’s career department, the vast majority of our students have gained entry to their first choice courses.”

Once again there was a rise in the number of students who achieved the top grades. Aidan Murray deserves a special mention as the school’s top achiever.

Other top achievers include Shauna Murray (A*A,A,A), Ciaran Emerson (A,A,A,A) while Jade Bradley, Kathleen Cunning, Roisin Healy and Marc McKinstry all achieved straight A grades. Other high flyers include Callum Black, Niall McLaughlin Christopher McLearnon and Orla O’Connell who achieved A, A, B.

There was further success in vocational subjects, with the top achiever Brendan Gribbon achieving three Distinction stars (equivalent to three A*) with Emmet Laverty, Orlaith McAlister, Erin McCormick and Eoin McGaughey all achieving Distinction stars in STEM related subjects.

Ben McKillop hit the jackpot by achieving a scholarship for the FTSE 100 computing firm Kainos which has ensured his place in Kainos ‘Earn as you Learn’ programme. As a result he will complete his degree in Computing Systems at the Ulster University, receive a salary throughout his studies with an offer of full time employment on the completion of his course.

Mr Brady was delighted at the success of the students across a wide range of subjects and stated: “It is gratifying to see so many of our young people achieve and exceed their expectations and for that the students and teachers in the college deserve great credit. These excellent results are down to the hard work, commitment and dedication of our students and staff, and they should be rightly proud.

“The college, once again, has demonstrated its consistency in delivering high quality learning and teaching. We look forward to pursuing future success for our students at Post 16 and thank our parents for their continued support.”
