A-mazing activities at Carnfunnock

WORLD famous maze designers have produced new educational material for Carnfunnock Country Park on behalf of Larne Council.

Adrian Fisher Mazes developed various fun activities to encourage both families and teachers to take pupils on an exploration of Carnfunnock maze and discover how it can be used to educate children about maths, English, mythology and even the arts.

Key Stage one pupils can take part in treasure hunts, musical journeys, baking and learn all about mazes including stories of Theseus and the Minotaur.

Meanwhile Key Stage two pupils will discover some of these activities and also be actively involved with maze design, drama re-enactments, directional games and maths based activities. Worksheets can be downloaded from the Council’s website at www.larne.gov.uk

Director of development for Larne Council, Linda McCullough said: “The Maze is one of the must-visit attractions within Carnfunnock Country Park and is now celebrating over 25 years of success. We are always looking at ways to improve the services on offer and felt it was appropriate to develop more fun and interactive activities for this well established maze.”

The Maze reopens for the 2012 season on Monday, April 2 from 9.00am - dusk (9.00 pm July - August).

School parties or groups are requested to book their educational visit in advance by ringing Carnfunnock on 028 2827 0541. The maze will remain open to the general public throughout the day, so adequate supervision must be provided.
