A morning at sea for Ballywillan Fellowship

Mr. Adams is a former civil servant, but he admitted his ambition had been to spend his working life at sea. Unfortunately, he suffered from a major disability – not seasickness, but vertigo, so that he could never have ascended the mast of a ship.

Nevertheless, Trevor’s love for the sea and ships was apparent as he treated members to an absorbing slide show of some of the many vessels which have visited the Port of Coleraine over the past 60 years.

His knowledge of the vessels, their owners, their tasks and ultimate fates was truly amazing, and Trevor enlivened his talk with various anecdotes, relating many of his experiences in a lifetime devoted to the study of ships and their environment.

He recalled the days when more than 500 ships visited Coleraine Port in the course of year.

Today, that figure is down to a couple of dozen.

Trevor was thanked for a most interesting and informative talk by the Fellowship president Dr. Michael Gardiner.

The speaker this Thursday (7 March) will be Mal Macready, who will address the Fellowship on the subject of Translink.

New members will be most welcome. Meetings start at 10.30am with tea/coffee and chat in the Link at Ballywillan Presbyterian Church, Portrush.
