A new direction for DJ Fergie

Now based at the heart of America’s entertainment industry in Last Vegas, the former Larne High School pupil, who first got behind a deck aged only 13, is now known as Rob Guson and still thrilling ravers at venues including the famous Caesar’s Palace.

He hasn’t lost his wanderlust, however, and is presently in South Korea, having taken his latest spin on Techno to delighted clubbers in South America and Ibiza this summer, performing as both Fergie and Rob Guson.

Fergie, as he will no doubt continue to be called by his legion of local fans, recently told Tillate magazine in the US why he had opted for change, saying: “After nearly 20 years as Fergie a name change might seem crazy, but anyone who has followed my career will know that I don’t always obey the rules.”

He revealed that the decision was partly influenced by his recent move to the US where, apparently, media were getting Fergie mixed up with the singer from Black Eyed Peas.

On his new musical direction, Fergie said: I’ll be keeping my feet in Techno, in the broader sense of the word, but I want my music to transcend any genre boundaries and reach out to more people.”

Fergie first played the US in 1998, when he was still only 18 and performing to huge crowds in New York, Atlanta and Philadelphia. He reckons it is now the best location from which to continue his globetrotting. “As a DJ, I want to go where the best parties are and play the best music and I feel at this moment in time America is the most happening place.”

His mum Alice, who still lives in Larne, saw how highly her son is regarded in the States when she attended his New Year’s Eve performance in front of thousands in New York. Proud Alice contacted us this week to tell us Fergie’s news, saying: “The Larne Times has always supported Fergie through the years since he started off back in the day 1995.”
