A Platform for Change is going to come

A NEW citizen's initiative, Platform for Change, has been invited by local group North-West Community Network to present at its Annual General Meeting on Friday.

Platform for Change describes itself as "a voice for citizens of Northern Ireland who believe that now is the time for a new politics focused on the common good."

"It is a place for people who feel there is more to be gained from positive politics and want to be involved," the group claim.

The recently launched project is steered by, among others, Dr Robin Wilson (policy researcher/analyst) and actor Nuala McKeever while hundreds of others from across Northern Ireland have signed up online.

Dr Wilson commented: "Platform for Change believes there is a public appetite for a positive political agenda which does not endlessly replay arguments linked to Northern Ireland's troubles… Citizens need to feel that they have a genuine say in government."

He continued that the initiative, which is non-party as well as cross party, "urges the full integration of business, the trade unions and the voluntary sector into decision-making." More about this evolving project can be viewed online at www.platformforchange.net.

On behalf of North-West Community Network, Mr Colin Devine explained: "This represents a timely opportunity to initiate and sustain meaningful discussion on what kind of future we wish to build for future generations in this part of the world."

On Platform for Change he commented: "The nature of NWCN means that we would not be expressly endorsing this or any other initiative at this stage, but in electoral terms, this is a key point in local/regional politics.

"Regardless of the answer, it feels justified to ask: Do we want more of the same? If we want change, what can we do about it?"

The meeting takes place in The Junction on the city's Bishop Street from 12.30-2.30pm. Space in the venue is limited so if you wish to go along, please contact Neola at the Network, tel: (028) 71 279090, email: [email protected].
