A poignant tribute to Bradley

Bradley Logan passed away due to an undetected heart condition known as CPVT on August 14 last year, after he collapsed whilst on a visit to Newcastle with his family.

Bradley would have been 11 on April 24, and in order to mark the occasion, his family has decided to hold a fundraising walk, which will see funds donated to associations close to Bradley’s heart.

The family say the walk will help them ‘turn a difficult time into something positive’.

Bradley was described as ‘an energetic, vibrant, enthusiastic 10 year old who loved life and sport’.

His parents Mark and Kylie Logan have planned a 10 mile walk from Holywood to Bangor to celebrate Bradley’s ife and help raise funds.

The walk will raise funds for portable defibrillators, whilst funds will also go to Bradley’s school PTA at Harmony Hill Primary School, which has developed a cricket facility at the school, with nets, Astro Turf and a softball play area in memory of Bradley, costing around £30,000.

Bradley’s father Mark said the family has been ‘touched’ by the support they have been shown so far.

“We have been very touched by the support we have received.

“We created a JustGiving account and put a £5,000 limit and within the first three or four days we had over £2,000.

“At the minute it’s probably over £3,000 and we just want to keep it going.”

Speaking of Bradley’s condition, Mark explained: “CPVT is an uncommon but treatable heart rhythm disturbance that can be brought on by strenuous physical activity.

“Our wish is that no other child or family experiences the heartache we have had to endure.

“We are planning to donate a few defibrillators to local sports clubs, such as Derriaghy Cricket Club, Moira FC,” said Mark. “We’ll see who needs one and go from there, nothing is set in stone.

“Moira Demense has been done up, so we were thinking it would be a possibility to have one mounted there. They have the Moira Run every Sunday for youth and Moira FC train there, it could be a brilliant idea.

“We want to donate money to the school, who have created a cricket zone. Bradley played cricket for the school and Derriaghy CC.”

The family have planned the walk along the coastal path for Saturday 23rd April at 11.00 am at the Play park at Seapark Road, Holywood to Pickie Fun Park, Bangor.

They hope as many people as possible can donate or join them for the walk.

“Anybody willing to join us, or who wants to support us, please do,” said Mark.

Bradley’s grandfather Eric Bowyer, a former Linfield FC player and manager, said people have been ‘supportive’ of their fundraising efforts.

“We always wanted to do something for Bradley, but we felt a bit fragile,” Eric said.

“It has been great so far, people have been really kind and supportive.”

Speaking of Bradley, Eric said: “He was into everything, anything sporty.

“This will help his mum and dad, and it helps me too. It’s tough, but it’s reassuring to see so many people are still mindful of the family.”
