A proud man who despised being idle

Eric Wilson Miniss - ‘Minto’ as he was affectionately known - was born on March 14, 1953, to James and Isabel Miniss.

Minto enjoyed a happy childhood living with his parents, brother Jim and sisters Betty, Netta, Helen and Margaret at the family home at Meeting Street.

He was educated at Dromore Primary and Dromore Secondary School and afterward served his time as a fibreglass operator before progressing to a lifetime of work as a manual labourer. He despised the idea of being idle and such was his reputation as a hard worker that even throughout recession and lean economic times he was never without an offer of employment.

He married his soulmate Dorothy Hooke in 1st Dromore Presbyterian Church and they had a daughter Nicola in 1981. Minto was a devoted and loving father and he revelled in the experience of being a proud grandfather to Kaitlyn.

Minto was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March last year but continued to live a busy and fulfilling life but he passed away on May 12.

A funeral service arranged by John Gamble Funeral Director, Dromore, took place in Dromore Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Church on May 14. The service was conducted by Rev Sam Peden.
