It may have been several months in the making but Showstoppers did not disappoint!

A capacity crowd from near and far were held captivated by the combined mastery of the Londonderry Musical Society and the Britannia Concert Band.

Society and the Britannia Concert Band.

For some time now, Ballycastle Rotary has been keen to host an event of this nature in the town. So, when the opportunity arose, we viewed it as an ideal means by which to achieve our aims. Not only does Showstoppers provide a big concert atmosphere, it feasts the eyes and ears, bringing with it an elegance and charm, audiences love.

Patrons were praised for their enthusiasm and the jovial nature of the audience did not go unnoticed by those entertaining them. Soloists (including Ballycastle’s own Fergal McCarry), duets and trios interspersed band pieces and full choral renditions to make for a most entertaining mix. Local singer Jim Thompson even set a side his diva-esque reputation for one night!

To Messrs Jim Goodman, Noel Barr, Ben McGonigle, Dairmuid O’Kane and Martin McDonald and Mrs Valerie Haslett, Rotary extends their gratitude. For use of their premises, ticket sales and provision of refreshments, we thank the Marine Hotel. We are also indebted to Homemade Beautiful, McMullan’s Pharmacy, Shorebird Coffee Hut and The Central Restaurant for furthering our numbers.

To all who helped logistically, we really appreciate your time and effort.

Finally, even before we know the extent of how successful the night was, financially speaking, we do know that, regardless of money made, the objective of entertaining our patrons in the name of Rotary was well and truly met. On behalf of the Club, we thank you one and all for the support given and trust that Showstoppers was all you hoped it to be.
