Norman was principal at the school from 1978 to 1988.

Mr Trevor Robinson, current principal, at the school paid this tribute: “Everyone at the College is deeply saddened at the news of the passing of one of its esteemed former Headmasters.

“I have no doubt that many former pupils and staff will have very fond memories of this true gentleman who served the school so ably as Headmaster for over a decade.

“Up until his health began to fail, Mr Eccles had been a faithful attendee at school events such as Speech Day and he had regularly kept in touch with me about how his old school was progressing.

“On behalf of the governors, staff and pupils I extend our deepest sympathy to Dorothy and the Eccles family at this very sad time.”
