A5 delay willhurt builders

ROADS Minister Danny Kennedy says he cannot announce a date for the start of the A5 Londonderry to Aughnacloy road scheme until the courts decide on a legal challange to the project.

But he says the delay is putting pressure on the construction industry.

“The ongoing legal challenge to the A5 Western Transport Corridor project has delayed construction, which was intended to commence in October 2012,” he said.

“In relation to jobs being put on hold, I am acutely aware that this delay is adding to the current pressure on construction jobs across Northern Ireland. I am, however, aware of concerns within the wider construction sector and from organisations such as CBI, CEF and QPANI.”
