A5 funding was £543k less than estimated

DUBLIN'S contribution to the Londonderry to Aughnacloy A5 roads project - due for completion in 2015 - was £543,000 less than initially estimated by the Department of Regional Development (DRD).

In September the Roads Minister Conor Murphy said the Dublin government had contributed just 8.5m of 400m in promised funding towards the road but he has now revealed the contribution has been less than that at just 7,957,000 sofar.

Mr Murphy advised, however, that a further 11m payment was due from Dublin as a consequence of the project reaching its latest milestone last week.

Responding to an Assembly Question on the cost of the road he explained: "My Department's Roads Service has, to date, made payments totalling 30.077 million in respect of the A5 dualling project.

"The amount received to date from the Irish Government is 7.957 million. A further 11 million is due following the achievement of the third key milestone last week, this being, the publication of draft orders and Environmental Statement for the scheme."
