Abandoned property in Moneymore set alight ‘deliberately’

Police are to investigate after a derelict property in the Moneymore area was “deliberately” set on fire on Sunday afternoon.

Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service dispatched two fire appliances to deal with the blaze on Turnaface Road just before 3pm.

A spokesperson said: “Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service [NIFRS] received a call at 2.52pm to a report of a fire at derelict residential premises at the Turnaface Road, Moneymore area of Cookstown yesterday afternoon [Sunday 24 May].

“Two fire appliances from Cookstown Fire Station were deployed to a fire the rear of a derelict bungalow in the area.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were able to bring the fire under control.

“The incident finished at 3.34pm and early indications would suggest the fire started deliberately. The incident has been passed through to the Police Service of Northern Ireland.”
