Abandoning seven dogs was a “despicable act”

Karen Mitchell was speaking after the three pups and four Terrier-type dogs were found around 7.30pm on Friday, October 4th, after they were alerted by barking.

“The residents were able to get the hold of the tiny pups which are only six weeks old. Unfortunately the other dogs were all extremely frightened and wouldn’t come near them,” Karen told the Times.

“It was cold and damp and there can be no excuse for anyone abandoning these dogs. One of the residents kindly took the pups in overnight and cared for them until they transferred them to BARK (Benvardin Animal Rescue Kennels) the following day on behalf of the Borough Council.

“Over the past week, the department have tried in vain to catch the other four by feeding them and trying to befriend them.

“Unfortunately these little dogs have no trust in humans at the moment due to their traumatic experience. They come and eat the food set out for them but keep their distance.

“We have tried this method in a bid that they can gain some trust in humans again. We hope in the coming days that our luck will change therefore avoiding the use of any type of trap.

“The dogs were found in along a rather long lane which was well of the Bann Road, thankfully there were houses otherwise these liitle pups might well have been found dead.

“I must condemn this dispicable act and I would appeal to those reading this article if they have any information no matter how little to come forward, all information will be treated in the strictest confidence. “I can be contacted on 028 27660257.
