Abuse probe tostop at 1922

THE inquiry into institutional abuse in Northern Ireland has been extended back 90 years as far as 1922.

First Minister Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness agreed to allow the inquiry to delve deep into the history of abuse in the state.

In a joint statement they revealed: “We have agreed to amend the starting parameter for the Inquiry from 1945 to 1922.

“However, we are content that the current scope, as outlined in the Terms of Reference definition of ‘institution,’ remains the same.”
