‘Access dispute over shoreline seaweed’

Cllr Padraig McShane was speaking at a meeting of Moyle District Council and he claimed a number of landowners in the area have “historical access” but that had been restricted by the arrival of large rock.

Cllr McShane claimed the issue is “causing friction”.

Council Chairperson, Cllr Cara McShane, also alleged the situation is creating “huge anxiety” in the community and she wanted to know if they could get guidance from the Council’s Countryside Officer.

Cllr Padraig McShane asked for the Council to move to ‘resolve access restrictions’.

Council Chief Executive Richard Lewis said that in the past the Council had asserted a pedestrian right of way and the Council’s Director of Environmental Services Aidan McPeake said it was his understanding the Council only have, and only require, pedestrian access.

Council Vice-Chairperson, Cllr Robert McIlroy, cautioned against the Council getting involved in the case especially if it involved the use of ratepayers’ money.
