Access permission granted for Rasharkin substation

Ballymoney Borough Council has agreed to grant the access permission needed to go ahead with plans to erect a new wind farm cluster substation on the outskirts of Rasharkin.

The controversial proposal on land 300m west of 269 Finvoy Road was last month backed by councillors following a recommendation from Cllr Cathal McLaughlin that an agreement had been reached on the future of Rasharkin Flying Club, one of the objectors. Cllr McLaughlin also explained that he and the constituent had therefore withdrawn their objections.

And at last Monday’s Full Council meeting, Alderman Frank Campbell raised the issue again stating: “Access is needed from Council to go ahead with the substation.”

In response, the Director explained that there ‘was an application before Council’ however said members could decide now or defer it to the relevant Committee meeting. Cllr John Finlay agreed to do it now and grant permission adding he was ‘happy to go ahead with it.’
