Accidental car fire near Cookstown damages shed

A car caught fire near Cookstown this afternoon [Tuesday], also causing damage to the shed it was parked next to.

Two fire crews were called to the scene of the incident just after 3.30pm.

A Fire Service spokesperson said the blaze is being treated as accidental.

They said: “Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service [NIFRS] received a call at 3.42pm to a report of a fire at the Dirnan Road, Ballybriest area of Cookstown this afternoon [July 28].

“Two Fire Appliances from Cookstown Fire Station were deployed to the scene of a car alight in the area.

“Two Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus dealt with the fire. It is believed that the car parked close to a shed caused damage to the property as well.

“The incident finished at 4.46pm and is being treated as an accidental fire.”
