Accordion day

TODAY (Thursday) is very special for accordionists because on this day in 1829 the first accordion was patented.

The Confdration Internationale des Accordonistes (CIA) has declared May 6 World Accordion Day and is coordinating a world wide celebration. The CIA invited East Antrim Seniors Accordion Orchestra and East Antrim Accordion School to join in the international tribute by holding an event in Northern Ireland.

The ensembles were only too eager to get involved and do their bit to help promote the instrument’s global appeal and this Saturday (May 8) they will perform at the bandstand in Broadway, Larne from 2.00-5.00pm.

Established in 1989, East Antrim Accordion School is the premier accordion school in Northern Ireland. More than 250 students have successfully completed British College of Accordionists examinations, in addition to winning numerous local and national competitions, including four UK titles.
