Accused went on ‘wrecking spree’

Francis Paul McCormick (36), of Glebe Avenue and Stephen McCormick (22) of Maythorn Avenue, are both charged with damaging windows and a door at Ballylagan Road, Coleraine and damaging three vehicles, a BMW, Mitsubishi and a van, belonging to Luke McArthur and a woman.

The offences are alleged to have happened on June 15 this year, Coleraine Magistrates Court was told.

Francis McCormick is further charged with making a threat to kill Luke McArthur and a threat to destroy or damage the house.

He is also charged with driving whilst unfit; failing to provide a specimen of breath and on the same date assaulting another individual and damaging that person’s pair of glasses. Stephen McCormick is charged with possessing an iron bar as an offensive weapon; assaulting an individual; damaging that person’s reading glasses and being disorderly at Eglinton Street, Portrush, on the same date. A police officer believed he could connect both accused to the charges. A prosecution lawyer said the directing officer in the case requires to view CCTV and asked for the case to be adjourned to September.

Releasing each on bail of £500, District Judge Liam McNally said there were “quite strong” police bail conditions already in place including night time curfews.

At the same court, A Kilrea man appeared charged with possession of cannabis with intent to supply and possession of the Class B drug. Matthew John Craig (24), or Bridge Street, is alleged to have committed the offences on July 22. A police officer connected the accused to the charges.
