Sammy and Lorna Blair celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary - or sapphire anniversary - on January 27 this year.

They were joined by family, friends and guests at the Portrush branch of the Royal British Legion for a party.

Instead of gifts, the generous couple asked for charity donations and a grand total of £850 was raised for Action Cancer.

Sammy and Lorna would like to thank all their guests who joined them to celebrate the event.

They added: “A special note of thanks also goes to the following local businesses for providing raffle prizes for the evening:

“Bushtown Hotel; David Coils, Farm, Garden & Solid Fuel Supplies, Coleraine; Parts Doc, Coleraine; Core Gym Coleraine; Campbell’s Pharmacy, Portrush.”

Accepting £850 on behalf of Action Cancer, Angela Chambers thanked the Portrush couple.

“We at Action Cancer are very grateful to Sammy and Lorna for thinking of us and for choosing us as their charity at their 45th wedding anniversary.

“We wish them many more years of happiness together.
