Action Cancer celebrates 40 years of dedicated work and support

This year marks Action Cancer’s 40th Anniversary year and the charity’s dedicated team of staff and volunteers continue to work across the whole of Northern Ireland helping to save lives and support people affected by cancer.

Services

Breast Screening- Action Cancer is the only charity offering free breast screening to women aged 40-49 and 70+ (outside of the NHS screening age) at Action Cancer House and on board the Big Bus which travels across Northern Ireland visiting communities and workplaces.

MOT Health Checks - Males and females aged 16 plus can get their cholesterol, blood pressure and pulse rate and lung capacity tested by Action Cancer who also can undertake a Body Composition Analysis, and use Facial Skin Scanners to identify skin damage.

Health Promotion- Action Cancer works with schools, workplaces and community groups to help kids and adults make informed, positive health decisions.

Support Services- Action Cancer offers counselling, complimentary therapy, life coaching to people suffering with cancer, their family, friends and carers. In addition volunteers offer support and signposting to people affected by cancer through the Listening Ear service.

Action Cancer must raise £3.6 million per year to operate its life-saving services. Action Cancer has a 
number of community groups throughout Northern Ireland that raise funds and awareness in their local communities. The charity also run treks and challenge events, seeks support from local businesses and supports those who run their own events.

Retail

Action Cancer shops operate throughout Northern Ireland helping to raise funds to support the charity’s vital services. Recently the number of outlets have expanded and in particular the retail furniture operation.

All the shops welcome donations of good quality clothes, bric-a-brac, books and household items. Donations of furniture and electrical items are also required for the new furniture shops.
