Action Cancer to step into fashion world

ONE of Northern Ireland's leading independent retailers, Menarys and Tempest has joined forces with local charity Action Cancer in a bid to raise over £20,000 in the next year.

The new partnership will aim to raise funds for the charity’s mobile unit, the Big Bus, which travels around the province offering breast screening, prevention and support services for men and women.

Jacqueline Beattie from Menarys/Tempest said: “The Menarys/Tempest group has had a long standing relationship with Action Cancer and it is a charity very close to our hearts. With over 1,300 employees that are predominantly female, we feel it’s important that Action Cancer’s unique breast screening service is readily available across the province.”

The new partnership will see the Big Bus visit a different Menarys/Tempest store every month for the next year, including Menarys /Tempest in Coleraine.

“Every store will be hosting their own fundraising events from coffee mornings to fashion shows, pub quizzes and more. There will also be a huge raffle where customers can enter to win 500 cash as well as a 1000 Menarys voucher and a 1000 Tempest voucher.”

Kerry McCrea, Corporate Fundraising Officer with Action Cancer said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Action Cancer to not only raise funds, but also awareness of our services on board the Big Bus.”

Services provided on the Big Bus, which is fully accessible for people with disabilities by means of a wheelchair lift, include digital breast screening for women aged between 40 and 49 and over 70, and health promotion and MOT health checks for men and women.
