Action on dog fouling urged

More could be done to tackle dog fouling in the East Antrim area, DUP Assembly candidate Alastair Ross has said.

“Councils have the power to issue fixed penalty notices to pet owners who refuse to clean up after their dogs, but there is a massive variation in how they are being used,” claimed Mr Ross.

“Figures I have obtained from the Environment Minister illustrate that in Carrick no fixed penalty notices were issued in 2010/11 or in 2012/13, with only six in total being issued over the past five years.

“Members of the public will rightly demand that appropriate action is taken against those who show little regard for others, and will encourage enforcement from the new Mid and East Antrim Council when appropriate in order keep our streets clean.”
