Action set to be taken on flood risk at Glenmore

Action to to reduce the possibility of properties being flooded at Glenmore Court has been welcomed by Councillor Scott Carson and Lagan Valley MLA Paul Givan.

Following flooding of properties the problem identified was the tunnel and pipework flowing under the railway line and Belfast Road that contains storm water.

Mr Carson said.: “I have recently met on site with representatives from Environmental Health and the Housing Executive and discussed a way forward for this water outlet.”

He added: “A new grill structure will be installed to prevent a build-up of leaves and debris in order to allow water to flow freely into the piped section downstream into the Lagan.

“I welcome the acknowledgement that the current arrangement was not fit for purpose and that a new system was necessary. The work when complete will allow residents nearby to rest at ease knowing their property will be free from flooding during heavy and prolonged rain.”

Mr Givan commented, “It is never pleasant when we hear of homes that are flooding due to inadequate measure being put in place for excess water but nevertheless I am pleased that new measures have been identified to prevent flooding behind these houses.”
