Action to resolve flooding issues welcomed

Local Sinn Féin representative Leanne Peacock has welcomed action taken by Rivers Agency to resolve drainage issues in the village of Rasharkin after recent incidents of flooding in the village.

Miss Peacock said: “I was contacted by local residents about drainage issues in a stream which runs along Drumbulcan Park, which houses the playpark,Community centre and walkway, the back of Carnfinton Park and along to behind St.Olcans Parish centre. Issues were also raised on the Lisnahuncheon Road where excess surface water was threatening to flood properties.

“As a result of excessive rainfall recently these areas experienced extensive flooding causing much concern to local residents-both the Parish Centre and the Playpark/Community Centre are widely used and very important to the local community . I contacted Rivers Agency at the time who moved swiftly to provide sandbags to the affected areas.

“ Rivers Agency have began to compile a report on flooding in the Rasharkin area. I will be meeting the Agency with my colleague Daithí Mc Kay to discuss the issues.

“I would like to thank Rivers Agency for their co-operation on these issues and commend them on their swift action in both
