Adam’s funeral delayed for mum to attend

Eight-year-old Adam Gilmour died after being knocked down by a car as he walked to school with his mother Sarah Hanna and five siblings.

The crash happened on Tuesday morning at 8.30am.

Adam’s funeral had been planned for today (Friday).

Ms Hanna’s sister, Michelle Johnston, told our sister paper News Letter, the funeral is now at 2pm on Sunday.

It will leave from Adam’s granny’s house in Cloughmills to Killymurris Presbyterian Church, Glarryford and then on to Ballee Cemetery.

“Adam’s mum is still in hospital so we have delayed it until Sunday,” Michelle said.

After the accident TUV leader Jim Allister published a letter he had written to the North Eastern Education and Library Board on Ms Hanna’s behalf, complaining about inadequate school bus services for the family.

Yesterday UUP MLA Danny Kinahan called for a review of school bus provision to be published.

He said that the report was given to the Education Minister in August.

“It is wide-ranging, we now need to get it out there to make sure something like this never happens again,” he told the BBC.

Last December Education Minister John O’Dowd commissioned the independent review of the home to school transport policy.

A spokesman for the minister said yesterday it was “was a complex report and he was taking time to consider its recommendations”.

Any changes to school transport “will have to go out to public consultation before final decisions are made,” he added.
