Addiction support for the over-55s

A leading alcohol and drug treatment charity is reminding people in East Antrim of its support services for the over 55s.

Addiction NI provides specialist information, support and counselling to people affected by their or someone else’s alcohol or drug use.

The service can be provided in the person’s own home or a local community venue, and can accept self-referrals, referrals from a family member, a friend, GPs and other health professionals.

Addiction NI treatment and counselling is developed on an individual basis relating to the client’s own circumstances.

The charity’s aim is to give the professional support that is required, and it is then up to the individual to decide whether they wish to do what is suggested.

Addiction NI provides up to 16 sessions free of charge, which are booked in on a weekly basis and last 50 minutes.

The worker and client generally decide together how many sessions will be required near the beginning of treatment.

The service is provided by professionally qualified social workers and counsellors and information will be dealt with in a confidential
manner.

However, there may be times when confidentiality may have to be broken such as in the case of child protection concerns, criminal activity, or if it’s in the client’s best interests.

If you are aged 55 or over, or are concerned about an older friend or relative, you can contact the charity by telephone on 028 9066 4434 or by email on [email protected].

To make a referral, simply give Addiction NI’s head office a call on 028 906 64434. A member of staff will ask a few simple questions and arrange an appointment with one of their counsellors at the earliest opportunity.
