Adding a splash of colour to works

THE WORKS taking place in Lurgan are to stop over the coming holiday period, according to Craigavon Borough Council.

Activity will stop from tomorrow (Friday) until July 19, with SAIC (NI) Ltd, the main contractors, making sure the town is safe and tidy for the upcoming celebrations. SAIC (NI) personnel will be available on their telephone hotline 07590 965 524 should any issues arise .

The works on the footpath at the junction at William Street and Church Place are to be completed this week.

Elsewhere the work continues on schedule with 70 per cent of the major excavation work completed. This work is to be completed by August, at which time all the streets will be cleaned and sealed.

With all of the works going on, many people have wondered how the town will look and if there would be any flower colour.

With funding from the council and the efforts of the Park East team, hanging baskets, flower towers and barrier planters have been set up to add a bit of colour.

In addition to this, 51 new semi-mature trees will be placed around the town. The trees, which cannot be planted until November due to gardening requirements, will be place in specially designed tree pits to avoid damaging the new paving.

The council would like to remind readers that remaining tarmac squares left with the granite works are deliberately left like this for easy access when putting in trees, bins or street furniture.

A council spokesperson said: “We want to thank people for supporting the town traders whilst we are working in Lurgan. With Lurgan 400, Lurgan Rally and a high profile concert planned for later in the year as well as a promotional campaign, we are hoping to increase the footfall within the town.
