‘Address Ballycarry park and ride’ - Beggs

Northern Ireland Railways (NIR) has been urged to provide park and ride facilities at Ballycarry station ahead of the planned opening of the Gobbins Cliff Path.

A representative from NIR was in attendance at Larne Council’s July meeting to provide an update on services on the Larne line.

And Alderman Roy Beggs said the introduction of park and ride facilities at Ballycarry would compliment the multi-million pound tourist attraction at Islandmagee, which is due to open in 2014.

The Ulster Unionist representative added that the Millbrook park and ride , which opened last year, has been a success and felt a similar facility at Ballycarry would provide a boost for the Gobbins.

Mr Beggs said: “The council hopes to have the Gobbins functioning at full steam next year and there will be additional visitors coming to the area, possibly using the train.”
