The court heard that in all 16 cheques were involved between May 2004 and October 2007.

Original cheques and replacement cheques had been cashed to a total of 2,128.86.

The defendant had reported the original cheques missing and received replacement ones. The money she owed was being deducted from her benefits.

Imposing the community service District Judge, Mr Alan White, said it was persistent behaviour over a long period of time but the last offence was three years ago.
