Admitted to police that he had cannabis

When police spoke to a 22-year-old man he owned up that he was in possession of some cannabis.

William McCallum, Iveagh Drive, Banbridge, admitted unlawful possession of a class B drug on November 19 last year when he appeared last Thursday at the local magistrates’ court.

The court heard that as a result of the defendant’s demeanour police went to search him at Iveagh Drive.

McCallum admitted to them that he had a small amount of cannabis and it was for his own use. He was an addict.

A solicitor representing the defendant said his client had recently received a probation order. He added that a condition of the order was that he attended for drug and alcohol counselling and treatment. He had 16 months left of the order.

Deputy District Judge Trevor Browne imposed another period of probation to run concurrently with the term he was presently completing.
