‘Adopt-a-Street’ is only NI Scheme up for UK-wide Award

Council representatives attended a glittering ceremony in Grosvenor House, London, for their service-leading ‘Adopt-a-Street’ scheme, which was shortlisted in the Environment Category.

Although they didn’t win the top prize on the night, it was an amazing accolade to have made it to the final stages of the largest and most well-respected awards in local government - beating off stiff competition from across the UK.

Council Officers, Trevor Clydesdale and Pamela Hanna were very proud to have the ‘Adopt-a-Street’ campaign, which has been running for 14 months, nominated. The scheme aims to bring people together within their neighbourhoods to help tackle the problem of litter, and restore a sense of civic pride. To date, the scheme has approximately 60 areas adopted, with volunteers from schools, local groups, businesses and individual residents. An overwhelming 1,000 bags of rubbish have been collected so far, and businesses such as O2, McDonalds and Asda have joined the cause.
