The Age NI charity has issued a timely reminder.

Hugh Black, commercial services director at Age NI says:”There are some simple steps that people can take to get ready for the colder, darker days.

·Heat your home well – by setting your heating to right temperature (18-21° C) you can keep your home warm and bills as low as possible.

·Make sure you have warm shoes or boots with non-slips soles. Keep a mixture of salt and sand handy to put on steps and paths in icy weather.

·Replace broken light bulbs and fix any frayed carpet that could prove to be a trip hazard when the days are darker.

·Get financial support. There are grants, benefits and advice available that could help to make your home more energy efficient or help with bills. Call Age NI on freephone 0808 808 7575 for a free benefits check with a local advisor in confidence
