With snow forecast, police are reminding motorists of guidelines outlined in the Highway Code.

Motorists are advised not to drive in snow or ice unless the journey is essential. If so, they should allow extra time.

The Highway Code states that motorists must be able to see, so clear all snow and ice from all vehicle windows.

Motorists must ensure that lights are clean and number plates are clearly visible and legible.

Mirrors must be clear and the windows are de-misted thoroughly.

All snow that might fall into the path of other road users must be removed.
