AEL to to launch Men's Shed project at Centrepoint in Larne this September

Acceptable Enterprises Larne (AEL) is to launch a new Men's Shed community project at its Pound Street headquarters.

The Men’s Shed will be based in a 40-foot shipping container currently being kitted out by a Ballymena social enterprise, which will be transported to Larne.

“We will have a public meeting in September when people can come forward with their ideas of what they would like to see going on at the Men’s Shed,” said AEL’s CEO David Hunter.

“We hope that this project will help combat social exclusion in men, for example men of a certain age who have retired and who don’t have a social network, or people who are unemployed or who have been made redundant and are wondering where they fit in.

“Participants will have the opportunity to develop craft skills such as woodworking to produce garden furntiure which can be sold and the profits will be reinvested into AEL.

“The aim is to foster pride and personal worth.

We hope the project will be up and running in September.”
