AFBI Hillsborough hosts Energy Agency

The Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) recently hosted the Executive Committee of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Bioenergy at AFBI Hillsborough.

The group included leading figures from the anaerobic digestion and biomass sectors from 18 different countries. The group was welcomed to AFBI by Hillsborough’s Head of Branch, Dr Trevor Gilliland prior to the technical sessions with AFBI’s James Browne, Peter Frost and Chris Johnston There were also on site visits to the anaerobic digester and biogas fuelled combined heat and power (CHP) engine where the visitors discussed AFBI’s work on co-digestion of grass silage with cattle slurry and the work on use of digestate as a biofertiliser.
