The centre is operated by Age NI.

June Newell, Day Centre Manager, said, “The centre is at the heart of the community here in Lisburn and operates three days a week, providing opportunities for fun, friendship and activity, as well as a hot meal and invaluable support to families and carers. Many older people experience isolation and loneliness, so it’s important to provide a safe and comfortable space where they can be involved, stay active and socialise - this is exactly what St. Pauls offers.”

“Our centre is extremely busy! We’d love to have some extra help from people with a few hours to spare each week. We’re looking for enthusiastic and reliable volunteers who are interested in supporting older people to remain active and engaged. They will also support staff, help to serve meals, assist with activities and games, encourage older people to participate, provide conversation and be part of a hard working team caring for older people in the local area,” she added.

Mark Dyer, Age NI Volunteer Development Manager, commented: “Volunteering can be an immensely rewarding experience and there’s a never a dull moment in an Age NI day centre. With so much to get involved in, the hours fly by. Our volunteers tell us they love the variety of the role and that, most of all, they enjoy building positive relationships with the older clients.

“St. Pauls is pivotal in helping to improve wellbeing and reduce social isolation. This is a great opportunity for local people to make a positive difference in the lives of older people.”
