Age on Stage to combine dancing with knitting

AGE on Stage, the Island Arts Centre based contemporary dance group for people over 60, are delighted to announce the award of £7,892 from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s Small Grants Programme to embark on an exciting collaboration with London based Performance Knitting Artist Rachel Gomme to devise a new dance piece that will explore the relevance and meaning of knitting and the memories that contains.

September sees Age on Stage enter its sixth year and this project will allow the Group to broaden their dancing skills, strengthen their performance abilities and awareness of choreographic techniques. The piece entitled ’Knit One, Twirl One’ will be performed at the Island Studio Theatre on Friday December 7 at a special matinee community event.

Age on Stage Chairman, Jean Hunter said: “We are looking forward to working with Ms Gomme on this new project and developing the palette of choreography which we will explore with her while she is here with us in Lisburn. We are very grateful for the support from the Arts Council Northern Ireland for the support for this innovative project.”
