AGM hears about Rathcoole group’s success

The group used the meeting as an opportunity to showcase the work is has done over the last 12 months, specifically in Rathcoole.

Guest speaker at the AGM was Mayor Fraser Agnew, who spoke of his ongoing support for the Dunanney Centre and his commitment to the continued success of Rathcoole.

RCCG is best known for the Dunanney Centre, which has been at the heart of life in Rathcoole since it opened in 1999.

The Dunanney Centre is a social enterprise, a community owned business, which uses its income to support the local community and meet the needs of people in Rathcoole.

Since its opening, the centre has run a wide range of projects targeted at meeting local community need. This year, projects included a good relations programme, a summer intervention programme, as well as training courses and community events such as the Christmas Village.

The programmes have been run with funding support from organisations including Community Relations Council, Newtownabbey Borough Council, North Belfast Good Relations Unit and South Antrim Community Network’s NICHI Small Grants Programme.

Speaking at the AGM, RCCG chairperson Pat Hutchinson MBE commented: “This has been a successful and productive year for us at Dunanney and it is important to us that we work with the community of Rathcoole to make the centre such a success.”

Highlighting the group’s achievements over the past 12 months in the annual report, Mrs Hutchinson thanked the staff team and Board members for their ongoing hard work and support.

“Times remain challenging, but we are more confident than ever of the important and beneficial role we have to play in the bright future of Rathcoole,” she said.

Dunanney Centre manager Vicky Moore added: “Rathcoole continues to be a community in transition. We strive to ensure Rathcoole is a healthy, prosperous, welcoming and secure place to live for everyone and continue to work with anyone who shares that goal.”
