Agriculture course coming to Ballymoney

Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Michelle O’Neill praised the role of the Farm Diversification Challenge Programme in supporting business enterprise and job creation across rural areas in the north.

The Diversification Challenge-Business Planning programme has been designed to help farmers and farm family members assess the potential viability of their diversification business idea and produce a business plan.

The autumn series of the Diversification Challenge Programme, which sees six courses running over the coming months and delivered by staff from the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE), began Thursday 18 September in the Torrent Complex, Donaghmore, Co. Tyrone.

This will be followed by further courses in Claudy, Ballymoney, Ballynahinch, Markethill and Enniskillen.

Minister O’Neill said: “These courses are designed to help farmers and family farm members investigate farm diversification business ideas.

“Each programme consists of six evening workshops aimed at helping participants assess the financial and market feasibility of their diversification proposal.

“During the course participants are supported by a business mentor who will help them draft a business plan which can then be used to explore funding options for their new idea.”
