Ahoghill says ‘Thank-you’

AHOGHILL Community Centre was the venue for a ‘Thank You Event’, organised by the Traders’ Association to pay tribute to all those individuals and organisations who continue to support the ongoing environmental improvements in the village.

Representatives from local churches, businesses, community groups, volunteers as well as Ballymena Borough Council heard of Ahoghill’s continued success in 2011 during the special evening.

The village won Best Small Town in Ulster in Bloom for the fourth year and achieved Silver Gilt at the Britain in Bloom finals in St Andrews. Ahoghill was also runner-up in the Supervalu Environmental awards and the Traders’ Association was the overall winner in the ‘Contribution to the Community’ section of the Ballymena Business Awards.

The event also provided the opportunity to formally announce that Ahoghill has been named as a finalist in the 2012 Britain in Bloom competition.

A spokesperson for the event organisers, said: “The Traders’ Association appreciated the opportunity to say ‘Thank you’ for all of the support provided by the local community.

“It is hoped to develop a number of new features in 2012 including completion of the Community Garden and a feature to mark the site of the old creamery. It is also hoped that a number of additional volunteers will be added to the hard working team in the village!”.
